We set off early in the morning for one of South Tyrol's most spectacular hikes: the Spronser Lakes. At 6:00 a.m. we met in front of the hotel, where our coach took us to Pfelders in the rear Passeier Valley. From there, we began our guided hike together.
The first section led us through an enchanting forest to the Faltschnal Alpine Hut. As we made our way uphill at a relaxed pace, the first rays of sunshine filtered through the trees, bathing the forest in a warm golden light. After around 50 minutes, we reached the hut, where a lovingly prepared breakfast featuring a variety of homemade regional specialties awaited us – the perfect way to fuel up for the rest of the hike.
With renewed energy, we continued through the idyllic Faltschnal Valley towards the Spronser Pass. The weather could hardly have been better: bright sunshine, pleasantly warm temperatures and crystal-clear views accompanied us throughout the day. Along the trail, we spotted marmots darting between the rocks, while cows and goats grazed peacefully on the lush alpine meadows, completing the picture-perfect mountain scenery.
"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
-John Muir
After about two and a half hours of hiking, we reached the Spronser Pass at an altitude of 2,583 metres – the highest point of our tour. The panoramic view over the Spronser Lakes was simply breathtaking. The deep blue mountain lakes, nestled between rugged peaks and green alpine meadows, revealed themselves in all their beauty, making every step of the climb worthwhile.
After taking in the magnificent scenery, we began our descent. Passing Lake Schiefersee and Lake Grünsee, the trail led us down to the Oberkaser Alpine Hut, where we enjoyed a well-deserved lunch break while soaking up the peaceful atmosphere of the mountains.
Refreshed and recharged, we set off on the final stage of the hike. Following the scenic Jägersteig (Hunter's Trail), we descended to the Hochmuth cable car mountain station. From there, we took the cable car down to the village of Dorf Tirol, where our coach was already waiting to bring us back to Der Heinrichshof.
The Spronser Lakes hike is certainly demanding, but it rewards every effort with unforgettable views, extraordinary natural beauty and many wonderful moments shared together. Without a doubt, it is one of the highlights of our Summit Weeks.
