On my favorite path to Leiter Alm
My personal recommendation for a successful hiking day above Algund.
Those who ask me about my personal favorite hike usually receive the same answer: the tour from Vellau via the cliff path and the Merano High Mountain Trail to Leiter Alm.
This hike combines everything that makes South Tyrol so special to me: impressive views, varied paths, pure nature, and a cozy stopover.
The tour begins in Vellau with a splendid view over the Merano countryside. The cliff path takes you through an impressive landscape and offers beautiful views of the valley time and again. This is followed by a section of the Merano High Mountain Trail leading towards Leiter Alm. The path is varied and manageable for experienced hikers.
Once at the top, for me, the real highlight awaits each time: the stopover at Karl's at Leiter Alm. After the hike, the South Tyrolean specialties taste particularly good there. Whether a hearty Marende, homemade delicacies, or simply a cool beer on the sun terrace – the cozy atmosphere makes every hike perfect.
After an extensive break, it's back to Vellau with a basket lift. Just the ride on this special lift is already a little experience and ensures a relaxed ending of the tour.
I particularly recommend this hike to our guests because it wonderfully illustrates the beauty of our homeland. Anyone who appreciates nature, enjoyment, and authentic South Tyrolean hospitality will love this tour just as much as I do.
With warmest regards,
