Kopie von Messner Mountain Museum

Juval Castle must have something mystical and unique about it, otherwise extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner wouldn’t have decided to make it his summer residence. At the entrance to the Senales Valley, one of Val Venosta’s sister valleys, the castle is one of the six Messner Mountain Museums and, dedicated to the magic of the mountain, reigns majestically over the area. Collections of Tibetan art and masks from different continents, as well as an expedition cellar – this and many more wonderful exhibitions await you here. In addition, there is a vineyard nearby, as well as an organic farm and a traditional wine tavern.

The museum is open daily (except Wednesdays) from the end of March until the end of June, and then again from the beginning of September to the beginning of November. During the summer months, Messner lives in the castle on Juval Hill with his family, where he makes preparations for his next expeditions and projects or writes his books.

NB:
there is nowhere to park at the castle. You can get there either on foot or by taking the public shuttle bus, which leaves from the farm shop in Naturno. You could easily combine a visit with a walk along the Stava or Ciardes irrigation channels. It’s well worth it!
